Loud noisy manhole cover
Reported via mobile in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 15:27, Thu 13 January 2022
Sent to Royal Borough of Greenwich less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3238410.
This manhole cover has been getting louder by the day. It now makes such a noise that it is keeping us and the neighbours awake and we fear that it will eventually dislodge and cause damage to vehicles.

I was coming on to report this too. It keeps me awake and has definitely got worse in the last 6 months.

I wish to report possibly the same problem, the manhole cover between Kings Highway and Swingate Lane, junction with Flaxton Road, centre of road.I live at 32 Kings Highway,at it is constantly driven over by the traffic, the noise is infuriating and we still hear it in the middle of the night. This has been like this for a long time now and would appreciate it if the council can sort it out.Thanking you for your assistance.Regards Roy Connell.

This problem has been ongoing for more than two months now. I am kept awake at night which is impacting on my health and on my job plus it concerns me that the manhole cover will flip out and damage a vehicle or worse a horse (the queen's guards come along here) or a pedestrian. Greenwich Council please please spend 30 minutes fixing this!

Hi Also reporting this as it has been affecting our sleep for many weeks and is particularly annoying during the day too. I share the same concerns that others have mentioned. Please fix this so we can all get a safer street and some sleep. Thank you.

Sadly still no progress. Have rasied several tickets directly with Greenwich Council Highways division who promise to investigate in 48 hours, well sadly that isn't the case. I dispair as to what else to do. I know there are a lot of prssing problems for them to service but this problem has persisted for many months now and I am close to just sitting in the road until someone comes to actually look at the problem. Apparently if we grafitti the loose manhole with obscene images we are likely to get a faster repsonse ....

People in high vis jackets came approximately 3 weeks ago. Peered at this problem and spray painted around it. However, nothing of use has occurred since. In fact it has become noisier, the 'clip-clap' noise may also indicate the condition has worsened. Fix my street has always been so responsive in the past, I don't understand why this problem persists. We are losing sleep and patience.

So since the workers in their high vis jackets and lorry with flashing amber lights turned up our hopes were raised.... but... nope... apart from some white lines around the manhole cover still nothing. I think Greenwich council are going for the record here for the slowest response ever. So far we have all had to live with this for 4 or 5 months. People's health has been impacted, livelihoods disrupted and jobs impacted. How can I claim compensation for this infliction upon our lives. Where does the Greenwich Councillor live? Perhaps I can go and stand outside his or her house for the next four months and bash a cymbal 24 hours a day 7 days a week for the next 4 months and see how they like it. Hmmm that's an idea 💡

Also here to report this with the same concerns as above. The manhole is obviously becoming loser and louder and potentially more dangerous on this bus route.

Thanks to everyone that contributed here to get this issue fixed after nearly 4months. In the end a neighbour placed a call through to Thames Water directly who were much quicker to respond than the council.
