Angerstein rail crossing is a mess
Reported via iOS in the Pavements/footpaths category anonymously at 09:16, Mon 29 November 2021
Sent to Royal Borough of Greenwich less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3148791.
The tunnel leading from Gurdon road to the footbridge and the rail crossing does not get cleaned by the council, nor Network Rail. It is a fly tipping, littering and graffiti hotspot with overgrown weeds and dumped trollies. The stairs are also in disrepair. Same goes to the footbridge and the Westcombe Park car park. Something must be done, please. Littering is out of control in the area. The only local volunteer to pick up the rubbish seems to be me and I had enough quite frankly. Please arrange something to keep this area tidy. Nothing has been done about the huge graffitis spanning over the rail bridges in the area either, despite being reported several times over the past two years.
Many thanks, Marton

Completely agree - this area needs some tender loving care and seems to be no man’s land!

Yes, usually at this stage I go out an clean it up myself (as I live just round the corner) but I decided that on this occasion I won’t do it. Funnily enough, three engineers from Network Rail were out at the spot the other day, and I crossed through them while they were having a lovely conversation about their Christmas plans, overlooking this sight… I also witnessed their platform cleaner coming out from Westcombe Park station with a broom the other day (presumably to give the car park a little love) only to see him turn around and go back after having swept in the one meter radius from the station entrance. Standards are pretty high…

Any update RBoG?! Ignoring your residents again?

Painting job and some work on the steps has been done (mediocre effort at best), however, the place continues to be a hotspot for littering. No rubbish clearance has been carried out by Network Rail. Street cleaners usually avoid the place. The area continues to heavily rely on voluntary littering picking and sweeping. Maybe a few signs along the lines of ‘respect your neighbourhood’ or ‘take your litter home’ could help (or god forbid a bin). This would mean we’d have to start living with condescending warnings and signs all around the area as a desperate attempt to prevent having to live on a dump… Great.
