Thanks for flagging this - several residents have also raised this with the three of us as your local councillors recently. We've asked Council officers to address this ASAP and also to share info on treatment plans, and we'll liaise with them on this.

Thanks again for raising this and for the photo, too, which is helpful.

  • Good morning,

Just an update on the weeds, which you raised last month. Shortly after you raised it with us we spoke to Council officers, and the Council's contractors sprayed the weeds on Birbetts Road and Bowmead (15th June) and then Margaret Gardner (16th June).

We are told that it should normally take, once sprayed, the weeds around 10-14 days to turn brown and die off (but this is weather dependent, so if it rains shortly after they’ve been sprayed, the chemical won’t be as effective) - so that should have been early June sort of time. The dead weeds should then have been swept away by our street cleaners.

When we raised this with Council staff they also told us they'd be visiting these roads, with their contractor, around about now to check that this has worked.

Finally this was the second spray - they'll be sprayed one more time this year (there are 3 sprays on all residential roads in the borough between March and October).

Thanks again for raising this and if you have any other queries don't hesitate to get in touch with us by emailing CHNEwardteam@gmail.com or on here.

    Thanks, John, Matt and Roger

  • Hi again,

Just another update from us - we've checked in with how the contractor visit went, and there will be a re-spraying today (Weds 21st) and tomorrow (Thurs 22nd). They will be re-spraying the weeds on each of Margaret Gardner Drive, Birbetts Road and Bowmead as it seems the previous spray wasn't as effective as they'd hoped. Fingers crossed this one does the trick.

Best wishes, John, Matt and Roger
