Why cut all the wildflowers?

The verges, roundabouts and parks have been looking amazing and o was about to write to thank the council and the parks department for leaving them uncut. Suddenly now there are mowers and workers spraying glyphosate everywhere. Why not continue the great work done planting wildflowers around some of the estates and let these spaces regenerate till late summer. There was no need to cut, visibility is fine and everyone I’ve spoken to has been enjoying the flowers and the longer grass. Such a waste of money and so dangerous to spray when people are around and breathing it in.
