New Speed Cushions are a Total FARCE and cause Motorist V Cyclist conflict
Reported in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 18:30, Tue 10 March 2020
Sent to Royal Borough of Greenwich 6 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 2053488.
When you see Highways installations such as this, I think it is reasonable to question the Judgement/Competency of the person(s) responsible.
When there are no parked cars adjacent to these new speed cushions, there is plenty of room for motorists to bypass the cushions, between the cushion and kerb. I even witnessed a 7.5 tonne lorry bypass the cushion recently.
When there are parked vehicles adjacent to the cushions, Ambulances and Buses are required to ride with one set of wheels over the cushion.
The installation of these speed cushions has now created a conflict between cyclists and motorists. Where there are no parked vehicles, many motorists are bypassing the cushions, using the same road space as cyclists. The cushions also make it more difficult for responsible motorists to overtake cyclists safely.
This installation is a departure from the London Cyling Design Standards, and a departure from common sense!!

ADDITIONAL OBSERVATION:
The traffic bypassing the cushions is passing close to the kerbline just before the approach to the bus stop.
The road is gently curving right at this location.
It is foreseeable that a inattentive/distracted driver could veer into the kerb and strike it with the NS front wheel. The probable outcome of such an incident would be the vehicle mounting the footway, just where pedestrians may be waiting for a bus.

I now cycle in the centre of the roadway on a frequent basis due to a parked vehicle adjacent to one of the cushions!!
