Cars Parked Up fo Months Riverdale Road

Reported in the Car parking category anonymously at 11:44, Thursday 24 October 2019

Sent to Royal Borough of Greenwich 2 minutes later

There are several cars parked on Riverdale Road from from 90 Riverdale Road up until 102 Riverdale Road and they haven’t moved in months. The ones at the end closer to the roundabout have flat tires and moss growing out of them, I believe they all belong to the mechanic business based on Riverdale Road. Could you please either have them removed as abandoned or speak to the mechanic and request him to move the cars and free up the already busy road so those who actually live here have a place to park. This complaint has been made on numerous occasions now and has not been taken seriously so the next step will be a petition against the council raised with the MP for the local area.

  • Tell me about it. We need permit holders for parking, can’t see him paying for all those clear this happening straight away so why don’t the council do this for us? I think maybe the police park their private vehicles causing even more hell

  • The problem is the mechanic, as annoying as it may be to have the police park on the road at least after their shift they go home. The mechanic leaves cars parked for months on end and will put one in its place as soon as he moves it. I have written numerous times to Greenwich but they close it as “fixed” every time and it’s really starting to become a joke. I walked down the road this morning and it’s packed on a Friday top to bottom with no place for residents to put their own cars, I counted 13... yes 13 that belong to him from the roundabout up until Viewland Road and that’s not including the ones he has dumped on Saunders.

I have been advising people to bombard your MP and councillors with complaints because at some point there will need to be some sort of accountability and that will be with them. Keep posting complaints on here as an evidence trail and try to take pictures, that way when the time comes they can not say they were not aware of his activities because the proof is on the public domain.

He is an absolute nightmare and is being protected by Greenwich who have allowed him to continue to trade illegally for years whilst terrorising the local residents.

  • The police don’t do a 9 to 5! They can park up to and over 11pm. It’s a bigger picture down this road not just the mechanic who is also a nightmare. Just a petition about it all. I’ve lived here over 30 years and its always been the same and the last time I addressed this parking issue with a local councillor I was told why don’t I move!! This was quite a few years ago and I don’t think their attitudes have much good luck

  • No point then really is there. I think if people are not willing to pursue the issue regardless of how frustrating it is and the MP simply doesn’t care then why bother. I may just take the advice you was given and just move it’ll be less hassle then this I bet.

  • Hopefully in the long term things may change especially when the Elizabeth line opens. I did call the highway team and was told that we were going to get residents parking permits for this area. But it’s in design stage and can take up to a year. But unfortunately I’ve been told this before and it never happens. I feel this is one way of stopping this unsociable mechanic who would be countable for all these dumped cars/vans. MP’s are not helping us for some reason this mechanic is a law to himself, it’s disgusting and dangerous what he is allowed to get away with 😢

  • A permit sounds great I wish they would permit the area. I’ve been told that you can start a petition against Greenwich council about how they’ve handled the complaints about the mechanic all you need is 10 signatures, when you have the 10 and present that to the MP they will have to discuss it at the next council meeting.

  • I use this road regularly, in my car and on foot. This property is an eyesore, vehicles block the road and pavement, which are also rendered filthy due to the nature of the work. Ironically, there are “no parking signs” on the gateways and garage. Is this kind of business, which creates a high level of waste and traffic allowed on a residential property in a residential street? As the business has been there for several years, is it likely that the business will be deemed legal through established use?

  • Yes it’s hilarious that on his garage door it says No parking yet he parks cars outside the homes of the residents for months on end. I still don’t believe he has all the correct insurances and is paying his business rates, but Greenwich Councle so not care it’s really frustrating.

  • The same cars I reported over a month ago are still here in the same place which means this issue has not been resolved.
