Severe and dangerous damage to road surface
Reported in the Potholes category anonymously at 20:41, Tue 15 October 2019
Sent to Royal Borough of Greenwich 4 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1806694.
Again, there are severe and dangerous potholes appearing on Pettman Crescent between Nathan Way and Plumstead High Street.
Inside Lane:
Just after the traffic light line on the inside lane, there are two very deep potholes where the left tyre of a vehicle will pass. These are deep enough to cause bodywork damage to any vehicle that passes over them, and also severe enough to cause a cyclist of motorcyclist to come off their bike. There is a large amount of gravel and tarmac debris surrounding them where vehicles have struck them and previous poor repairs have come apart. One of the holes is so deep that either a utility pipe or other pieces of metalwork are now visible! Other vehicles are being forced to swerve, causing a risk of traffic collision; and furthermore, debris is striking pedestrians.
Middle Lane:
In a similar location to the potholes on inside lane, but on the right side of the lane. Again, very deep, and at risk of causing bodywork damage, or severe enough to cause a cyclist of motorcyclist to come off their bike. There is a large amount of gravel and tarmac debris surrounding them where vehicles have struck them and previous poor repairs have come apart. Other vehicles are being forced to swerve, causing a risk of traffic collision.
Middle and outside lane:
Between the junction of Nathan Way and Old Coal Yard, the expansion joints on the bridge have been rather foolishly tarmacked over. This means that with a change in surface and ambient temperature, the road surface will come apart. There are cracks appearing in the centre lane, so potholes will appear soon, and the recent so-called 'repair' looks like it will start to detach soon.
Will the council actually put some serious consideration to repairing the road properly at some point? It seems that every few weeks, the same problems are appearing in the same places, and the council responds by sending some cowboys to do throw a lump of tar over the top and do the cheapest 'repair' possible, and it is only a matter of time before a vulnerable road user is injured or killed!
