Illegal Car Repairs Riverdale Road
Reported in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 13:03, Sat 17 August 2019
Sent to Royal Borough of Greenwich 21 hours, 42 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1735256.
Walked up Riverdale Road yesterday and it was like a junk yard with bonnets open and cars being worked on. Also cars being left jacked up outside over night which is a serious health and safety breach. I live on Saunders Road and have the same issue on my side of the road, last time I checked this practice is actually illegal.
Is it illegal to fix cars on the road?
It is during the course of a business it is for gain or reward it causes annoyance to people in the vicinity The only exception is that if the repairs are carried out following an accident or break down where it was necessary to do the repairs on the spot or within 72 hours.
If it is a one off repair then this is not likely to breach the law but anyone who repeatedly repairs vehicles on the road is likely to commit an offence.
So why has this been going on for so long?

This is still going on, today more works going on. We’re still waiting to see Greenwich take action and put a stop to this as it’s getting worse by the day.

I have also reported this on several occasions. It’s outrageous how Royal Borough of Greenwich is treating us!!!! He also leaves abandoned cars for months of end outside people’s homes making it impossible to park. I see other Greenwich Boroughs changing and looked after and kept nice, yet not around here!!!! How long do we have to put up with this. Local councillors don’t give a hoot how we are living. This site is ok if you have dumped rubbish but when it comes to issues like this you hear anymore.

I have no idea why they refuse to deal with this? It seems like they just don’t care which is really sad because his actions are affecting so many residents. Plus there’s the safety aspect of it, I really hope that his actions and Greenwich’s lack of actions don’t come back to bite anyone in the ass. I’ve been wondering for some time about how safe it is to be carrying out works on a vehicle whilst it’s parked on the main road and also how safe the garage is and if it’s been Health and Safety checked???
