Collapsing Utility Trench
Reported in the Potholes category by Andrew Masson at 22:09, Fri 31 May 2019
Sent to Royal Borough of Greenwich less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 1645499.
Thames Water dug a trench across the road adjacent to a speed hump outside numbers 45 / 30 to replace pipe work. Subsequently the trench has settled leaving a substantial dip causing cars to ground in both directions passing over the speed hump. In addition to the potential damage to vehicles, it causes excessive noise waking residents overnight.

The problem persists. Council passed it to Thames Water who came out and then passed it back to the council.

The trench has been visited by surveyors from Thames Water and the Council who are in concurrence that it is a hazard and needs to be resolved. Thames water arrived yesterday but to remove a patch of tarmac from the pavement and replace it with concrete (reinstating the cross over outside 45). However they didn't have the correct plant and went off without doing anything. They weren't here about the trench which is the problem and they advised was the councils responsibility.

Alas the problem is ongoing, and the latest update is the Council advising that it's Thames Waters responsibility. It was established sometime ago that first fill is Thames Water and they pay the Council to complete the repair once the works have settled.

Battle still ensues between Thames Water and the council. Thought there was progress and then the council pushed the problem back to Thames Water
