Reported in the Flytipping category anonymously at 13:04, Thu 29 March 2018
Sent to Royal Borough of Greenwich less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 1261830.
The persistent, long standing, problem of flytipping on the driveway and pavement outside 196 Herbert Road has returned. The current pile includes mattresses, furniture and bags of rubbish.

The pile of rubbish has been added to overnight. This corner of Herbert Road and Whitworth Road is unsightly and a health hazard. Water leaking out of one of the garages is adding to the problem. It is on private land but it’s impacting on all the people who live nearby. Can cameras be installed to identify the fly tippers?

This problem is never solved. It must be costly to have to continue to clean up the mess behind. 196 Herbert Road. As soon as the area is cleared fly tippers return to dump all sorts of waste. Now the rubbish, all sorts of household items, big and small are packed behind the wall of 196 and the forecourt of the 2 garages are strewn with wet rubbish. There seems to be a water leak here as the area is always wet. I hope a solution can be found to stop the recurrence of this nasty problem. I am sure vermin are attracted to the site and nearby I have seen a rat which had been run over.

This spot is now the place to leave household rubbish. In last 48 hours suit cases, clothing, cupboards, bags of general rubbish have been added to the existing mountain of mattresses, divan bases, fridge, and general waste. I’m sure addresses and names will be on some of it. Please can the council clear investigate and put some signs up to discourage this anti social behaviour. Residents are sick of it and some are actually leaving the area because it’s so depressing.

Please do something about this problem. It's awful to see this mess as soon as I turn into Whitworth Road to go home. Surely a CCTV camera might help identify the culprits. Children have to pass this mess on their way to school and it sets a terrible example to them. I'm sure if this problem is allowed to go on into the warm weather there will be a terrible stench. This area could be used to actually store cars rather than being left to fester. It's more than an eyesore. I would be surprised if this would be left in such a state if it were, for example in Shooters Hill or Blackheath. Why should the Residents of Whitworth/ Herbert Road be expected to put up with this . Please do something soon.

Every day more rubbish is left at this site, from overflowing plastic bags full of clothes to household furniture and general filth. If the council can't do anything about this can you let me know who can? Why has nothing been done for so long. Please do something. At least let us know what can be done. This problem is never 'fixed'.

This problem does not seem to be receiving any attention. Our hopes were raised by the appearance of uniformed council workers with clip boards some weeks ago. They said they were logging it but no action has been taken to clear the area. Please can you tell me what can be done, and who can help if this is beyond the remit of the council? It is very depressing to see this day after day.

Nearly all the rubbish has been cleared. To whoever did this, a huge thankyou. There are still 2 mattresses which may have been difficult to reach because they have been thrown in among the trees. In comparison to the huge amount that has been cleared, this seems almost insignificant but unfortunately it will encourage further fly tipping so please can the job be finished and the remaining items removed? Thank you again.

Indeed, seeing the worst of this rubbish cleared away has made my week - many, many thanks. Never underestimate the power of haiku! Fingers crossed the problem does not return as we have all, unfortunately, come to expect.
