Cars parked on north side of Raglan Road from Sandbach place down to Glyndon Community Centre
Reported in the Car parking category anonymously at 14:17, Mon 22 May 2017
Sent to Royal Borough of Greenwich 3 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1041384.
Cars are parked on both sides of the road during the day. Large vehicles, including the 291 bus, struggle to get past and have to drive on the wrong side of the road. This problem has increased since new parking restrictions were put in place on Robert Street

I am a resident in the area as well & this is a big problem. It was bad enough with 1 car double-parked but now there are 5 or 6 at any time & also really close to the island in the middle of the road, meaning occasionally the 291 &/or other large vehicles need to go onto the other side of the road to get past. This is dangerous as coming up from the Glyndon Centre there is a small hill & it's not nice as you are driving up & are suddenly faced with a bus or Bin lorry on the wrong side of the road.

The parking between Sandbach Place and Glyndon Community Centre is ludicrous. The main problems are cars parked on the left side of Raglan Road going away from Burrage Road. I managed to squeeze through a small gap today, the 291 bus would have no chance. It is dangerous at the start and end of the school day. Two drivers had a stand off yesterday as to who had the right of way to squeeze through. Fortunately, no violence ensued. A solution would be to extend the double yellow lines from Sandbach Place all the way to the Community Centre.

Agreed with the solution of extending the double yellows all the way down, perhaps even double reds (if it counts for anything). There simply cannot be double parking on a busy main road with a school & bus route.

This parking situation is becoming worse. Yesterday, 6th June , 14 cars were parked on Raglan Road in the direction from Burrage Road towards the Glyndon Community Centre. Cars could not pass smoothly. Buses could not get through. It was due to the generosity and calm manners of drivers who would allow streams of cars to pass one way then the other. This road needs double yellow lines immediately to allow traffic to flow smoothly once more. As far as I am aware nothing has been done.

Agreed with Gerry. Something needs to be done. This is a serious problem.

Had to stop & turn my engine off last night at 18:50 to try & get through as 2 cars had met & had started arguing & neither would move. When they eventually moved it was then harder to get through due to the backlog of cars & more dangerous as now everyone was frustrated. When will this be looked at? I'm sure it isn't hard to extend the double-yellow lines all the way along.

This is causing serious problems. Rush hour is terrible going through here & traffic is spilling back into Burrage road at the crossroads where the pub is. People are having to turn around & go the other way, e.g. up burrage road then out the top, which is also congested as result.

Agree. Now have to take long detour round to avoid long queues on Raglan Rd. Last Friday at 5pm there were two separate gridlocks in about 10 minutes. Buses using wrong side of road. Poor L driver had to wait for at least 5 minutes before he was able to negotiate way through, having to carry out stressful hill start as well.

Totally agree - Greenwich council must make this a double yellow. Also at the bus stop next to foxfield. There is a small SUV just with junk in it and not moved for weeks. The red civic also an issue -I saw someone park there and walk to train station. This idiots can park on a side street instead

Just had to turn around AGAIN for about the third time in 2 weeks due to 2 cars meeting here & neither one of them wanting to reverse. Had to go up to Plumstead common & got stuck there as well - ridiculous, simple solution - sort it out!!

Is anyone in authority (or indeed the local authority) taking note of these comments? Will it take collision, physical disagreement on the road or an accident involving one of the school children to effect something to happen? Today, 29th June, total standstill in both directions at 9.30 am and again at 3.15 pm just as many children and parents were leaving the school.

It has been nearly 2 months now - has anyone looked into this?

I am walking past this hotspot at 8.25am and just seen a man park a burgundy Lexus here with the other cars on Raglan road just after the centre. And before where the phone box used to be. He took his attaché case and is now walking to woolwich arsenal station. So if non local residents are parking as close as possible to the start of restricted parking, you seriously need finale both sides double yellow. Yes it's also the locals too as we well know. I feel sorry for the 291 drivers, plus the dick who places wheelie bins out saving a parking space (see pics) doesn't help. and yet we all get a letter saying that they are introducing double decker for commuters to make better connections to the crossrail - the farce continues. You know what to do, extend the double yellow lines fully across the two islands, and also fully on the non residual side of raglan road, why don't we all just park there and halve my walk to work. Seeing the bus drivers stop, crawl and weave around just makes me annoyed also it's pretty uncomfortable and delaying when you are on a bus (not just in my car) - fix this asap FFS, or is it too much hard work???

I fully agree with the latest update. Obviously no one is reading these comments. Ignorant parking without a care in the world for anyone, especially local residents, 291 drivers and other large vehicle drivers. I have a yellow line marker, I think I may pay a midnight visit and hey presto, double yellow lines on both sides of Raglan Road! It will only take me 1 hour!

There was about 2 days recently where no cars where parked on the other side which would have been a perfect day to quickly extend the double yellows. No one is paying attention to this though & now again as the last 2 people said, it's double-parked all the way. It is so frustrating, you CANNOT have a main road like this double-parked all the way along. It is causing arguments when drivers meet as it's not clear who has right-of-way/no one cares anyway & someone is going to get hurt, especially the cyclist's who have to squeeze through or the people who feel the need to rush through to avoid getting stuck. It's just a matter of time.

I have witnessed three stand offs between drivers who will not give way to either party. As previously mentioned it is only a matter of time before a serious potential road rage hazard. At least with these messages of evidence the blame for any injury ( hopefully not) will lie with Greenwich Council.

Excellent!! The lines are amazing and will make the traffic flow freely again. It took a while ...but it is done! Well done those who bothered to comment and draw attention to this problem which affected many people. I hope no one parks in the gaps!

Hooray! We can now drive our buses without too much diversion.
From the 291 bus drivers.

Well done to all the contributors who made an effort to voice their concerns. Quite often passionately and with a genuine concern for safety and the welfare of local residents. It took a bit of time but thanks to the council for at last getting it done! What's next......!?

I knew it! There are two breaks in the newly painted double yellow lines. Obviously due to cars being parked there when the lines were originally laid down. There has been a van parked in this space causing problems for passing cars and buses for two days. Please fill the gaps in soon!

I saw those gaps but didn't flag in my commented Maybe it was emergency vehicles? Only an utter c*nt would park in such a small gap - and sounds like we've revealed one so soon. Fill the gaps.... before someone ends up covering said vehicles with excrement from one of those pikey dogs from the park - could be a funny deterrent ;)

Here is the thoughtless piece of parking by this driver. Selfishly parking in the gap which could not be lined yesterday 31st August. Why could the lines not be completed? Because the selfish driver had parked there again! Maybe paint the lines over the van next time?

Well done the line markers! Well done all community minded contributors! First entry was 22nd May! It maybe worthwhile to now concentrate on the other side of the road after St James' Place where those lines need extending near the refuge. It is where children cross for school, the 291s find that tough to negotiate. But can we spend another 5 months of updating ? Maybe we can all try again!
