Traffic increase on Birdbrook Road due to parking restrictions
Reported in the Car parking category anonymously at 07:44, Thu 23 March 2017
Sent to Royal Borough of Greenwich 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 1008317.
Since the closure of a lot of "free" parking sites & making a lot of the surrounding roads permit parking Birdbrook Road is now becoming dangerously congested-especially during peak times. The road is now double parked during the week, making it a nightmare for refuse collectors & emergency services to navigate. Residents with no off street parking are regularly unable to park near to their homes due to the increased commuter parking. Despite traffic calming measures a lot of traffic still uses this road at high speed. Also, bearing in mind that there is a cycle path that crosses the road & it is used for pedestrian access for the school something needs to change before there is an accident.

Painting more double yellow lines under the bridge at the pinch point is only going to move parking onto Birdbrook & Ridgebrook roads. If the Nelson Mandela road area, Eltham Green road & all of the new build for the Kidbrooke Village have been declared as residents' parking only why has this area not been?

Although there is a more sensible crossing now for pedestrians & cycles & more double yellow lines the underlying issues are still there-increased traffic & double parking

Just in case anyone was following the progress of this report both Clive Efford & the ward councillors have been contacted about this. It was suggested to the councillors that a newsletter might be helpful to let residents know that the issue was in hand.
